You know you are a bike racer when....

1. you don't have a social life between march and september because of racing

2. you know of at least one official that everyone knows and hates

3. Tanlines. Enough said.

4. Italian and English start to sounds the same after awhile

5. Endurox really doesn't taste so bad anymore.

6. You've had at least one thing thrown at you while training

7. Every time you open a cabinet or closet in your house, a long lost bottle is staring at you.

8. The idea of waking up at 7 AM on saturday morning to hit the road for a few hours in 40 degree weather sounds perfectly normal

9. Changing under a towel in a parking lot full of people doesn't sound risque to you. at all.

10. Spandex isn't slutty.

11. Female cyclists don't date guys that don't shave their legs (guys with shaved legs are sexy. and smart...guys that don't shave their legs are invisible)

12. you pass on going out with your friends several weekends in a row to save up the $80 it takes to bring your bike with you on vacation.

13. Attending prom is in question because of a race the next morning.

14. You can outeat all of your football and wrestling friends.

15. A 6,000 calorie day is normal.

16. Your only use for internet is to check out new bikes, blogs, and results (and facebook, as the case may be). As a result, you can quote multiple pro rider's blogs, but you still don't know where your car keys are.

17. GU and PowerGel are different. Really.

18. Pretty much everything can be said in two or three letters: TT, RR, PSI, UCI, VO2, LT, AT, etc.

19. No matter what anyone says, you KNOW that triathletes cannot ride bikes.

20. Running sucks. Period.

21. Just the thought of a cat. 5 race makes you nervous.

22. If you are female, you have a rather large butt.

23. If you are male, you probably have a big butt also.

24. You can be a sprinter and weigh 200 lbs, but you're still a lightweight in terms of drinking.

25. You can hold a coversation about campy vs. shimano and think that it is totally normal.

26. You can look at someone and immediately know if they are a climber, TTer, or sprinter.

27. You can look at someone's ankles and know if they are a trackie.

28. Your off-season is a two week period right before halloween.

Taking it to the next level!

So if you haven't heard by now I have decide to race this year. I am registered with US Cycling and have my Lic number. Tomorrow night I am meeting with Mr. Jay Hollywood himself to go over my bike, training plan, and get fitted for my skin suite.

As I was talking with Jay earlier today he brought up a point of concern..... I may have out grown my bike performance wise. My bike is no longer a competitive advantage for me. This news makes me very sad as I am not able to afford to either update mine or buy a new one. My bike is by no means a bad bike,,,, it is frankly an amazing bike, just not enough bike to race with for my level.

I am starting as a Cat 5 until I place (assuming that I place) and earn enough points. I have decide my first race will take place on April 25th. (click on the date to see details)

I am not sure where I am going with this racing bit but I know I am looking forward to it. It is consuming my thoughts.

Words of advice from anyone who has been in this position before??

I am still looking for sponsors for my blog and my charity rides. Sponsorship as small as a registration fee for one of the rides, or as larger as making sure I have a means of getting to where I need to be, they all help and advertising is a sure bet for any of the above.

That's it for tonight.... Watch for a large update tomorrow evening as more unfolds.

Go ahead, I will watch and be your Cheerleader!

SMILE PRETTY ANNE!!

"Yes I will be there, No I cant make it, wait I will meet you out there!! I'm in, I'm out. She dropped already".... And no I am not talking about the bipolar-ness of Minnesota's weather.

After much ado I hit the Greenway and there she stood,,,,, glowing in all her beauty, aww and wonder.... That amazing black Trek under Anne.

(SLAP) I meant my wonderful partner in crime Anne herself.

Let me step back a minute. I would like reflect on my morning leading up to the ride.

Oh wait there is no thoughts except "Where is my bike, can I go yet, is it time, how come it's not 2:30".

As Anne and I headed east on the Greenway I thought to myself that this was a VERY bad idea. There were puddles deep enough a small dog could drowned, children, and the ever meandering grandma that went from one side of the path to the other in a matter of 11.75 inches.

Breaking free from the insanity of riding the obstacle course we headed along the Mississippi river valley. With a nice tail wind at our backs and room to breath I had a moment of clarity. How dare I dread riding on this sun filled day granted to us? As soon as that thought came, it left with a cross wind sandblasting of the legs while crossing the river.

Still heading east, my mental illness came over me..... BOYS,,,,BOYS,,,,, My dream car,,,BOYS,, and a nice home to look at thrown in there here and there and more boys,,,, yet all I could think of is THE HILL. For those of who are not from here or familiar with Ramsey Hill, it is easily a Cat 2 (Holy Sh*t steep) that is about 1/3 of a mile long.

At the top of it we had two choices:
1.) Look at the pretty hill and plan to ride it "at some point this year"

or

2.) Suck it up and do it.

Well between the two of us we covered both options.

With a small amount of hesitation I looked at Anne and offered to ride it with her and without batting an eyelid but a cute little "your Fu*king nuts laugh states "Go ahead, I will watch and be your Cheerleader".

By the time I arrived at the bottom of the hill I had changed my mind. I no longer felt the need to kill myself on the first day of training for the year...

With father time and his friend death sitting with me at a dead stop at the bottom of the hill we stared out....

198 beats per minute... yep my heart rate upon reaching the top, one small cramp and me gasping for air, death and time soon arrive with excuses of the tardiness at the top. Anne holding her word she was the best cheerleader a boy in spandex could ever wish for.

On the ride back there were some cat calls to boys, girls, and even one guy grasping a hubcap with no obvious car in site.....

Back on the Greenway, taking a mud bath and exfoliating our teeth with sand the decision is made that a Chocolate chip Cookie is in store so off we went.

Who could this man in a pink helmet coming at me be but Rand, and sadly the first one of everyone that I know to take a spill..... yes there is still ice on parts of the path.

Cookie in tummy and Anne narrowly avoiding a throw down with the guy in Whole Foods (Anne totally would have won) we call it a day. Anne going west back out to Minnetonka and myself retuning to uptown via Lake of the Isles we end our fantastic ride.

It may seem crazy that we were biking over water, mud, ice and at points barely missing a small child or two that we can call this an amazing training ride but it was. I could not have hand picked better weather or better company.

Thank you Anne. You rock my world.

If you click the title of this post you can see a google earth picture of Ramsey Hill....
